Probably the most used soundwaves during that time would be saw tooth and square (if you don't know what these waves look like you can Google them as it's kinda hard for me to describe) but if you start making layered melodies with these sound waves it will start to sound like classic video game music. A sine wave, a square wave, a sawtooth wave, etc. 3xOsc has (hence the name) three oscillators if you go in and turn off the other two oscillators so you only have one being audible, you have a basic sound wave. You have all these sound waves already with almost every single plug-in. I mean old video game music was made with extremely limiting hardware (and software) Pretty much everything you hear until after the 8 bit and 16 bit era was made using only basic sound waves.
